Portsmouth was one of the first in the country to set up neighbourhood forums. There are 14 forums across the city offering local people the chance to come together to have their say on what they think of local services such as parking, crime, planning and schools.
Meetings can attract up to 150 people, whilst committees of around 15 local people set the agenda, and organise the day-to-day running of the forums.
Forums have achieved real successes with a number receiving grants to physically improve their area, and helping to secure money for skate parks and youth shelters, whilst continuing to have a real say on policies and developments affecting their neighbourhood.
