Occupational Therapy

How can an Occupational Therapist help me?

If you are finding living in your home more difficult because of a long-term medical condition, or because you are becoming less mobile and finding it harder to get about, you may benefit from the advice of the City Occupational Therapy Team.

We know living at home can be difficult if you can't get upstairs easily or are finding it hard to manage daily activities like getting in and out of your armchair. If problems like these are affecting your life, contact your GP or get in touch with us.

We work with health professionals and, wherever possible, want to support you to continue to live as independently as possible in your own home. We will be able to assess how you manage activities at home and discuss with you whether adaptations, such as an additional stair rail, would help.

Minor adaptations to your home and provision of essential equipment will be undertaken free of charge. If you need to apply for a grant for major adaptations a financial assessment will be carried out to see whether you need to make a contribution.

Further information is also available at the British Red Cross.
