Building Control Services

The Building Regulations cover matters such as structural stability, fire safety, energy conservation, and accessibility of buildings.

The route to approval of works requires the submission of detailed proposals which would usually include plans, but not always. The submission of an application that includes detailed plans enables an early examination of the proposals and identification of issues that need to be addressed in order to achieve a satisfactory result. After the submission the work is inspected at various stages as it proceeds.

The Building Control Service carries other safety roles including :

• Safety at Sports Grounds
• Inspection of Dangerous Structures
• Structural Safety of Licensed premises
• Demolitions

It should always be remembered that the Building Regulations are a separate requirement to planning permission and in many instances approval under both is required by separate applications.

Where to find us

Building Control customers should call at the ground floor reception of the Civic Offices, where a member of the Building Control Services Administration Team will assist you with any information or booklets you require concerning our services.

If you need to view archive drawings or need technical advice then an appointment should be made by contacting Building Control services who will be pleased to help.
