Street Lighting

The council has a statutory duty to conserve areas or items of historic interest. Portsmouth has a large number of historic lighting columns which are being retained or replaced 'like for like', in conservation areas to enhance the aesthetics of the road. The majority of main roads have the standard grey / square light colum and consideration is given prior to erection regarding what style column would be appropriate to retain a uniformed appearance throughout the city roads.
