Standard european traffic lights contain 3 basic colours - Red , Amber and Green. Each colour either singulary or as a combination instructs different activity : RED Stop. Wait behind the stop line , RED AND AMBER also means Stop and so does AMBER . GREEN indictaes you may go if it is safe to do so and FLASHING AMBER means you must give way to pedestrians on the crossings, but can continue if there is nobody on the crossing.
