Records Offices

The Records Office is housed in the same building as Portsmouth City Museum. It holds the official records of Portsmouth City Council which have survived from the 14th century as well as thousands of local maps and plans, photographs and picture postcards available from the search room . The Portsmouth City Records Office is a member of the CARN registration scheme; if you have obtained a CARN ticket from another Record Office, you can use it here, but if you have not, you can obtain one provided you show us official proof of your name and current address, e.g. driving licence or utility bill ,alternatively you can apply for a day ticket.

A : Anyone can visit the Record Office, without an appointment. For a reader ticket, please bring some official ID such as a driving licence, utility bill or Portsmouth Library card.
