The Environment & Public Protection Service incorporates Environmental Protection, Contaminated Land, Trading Standards, Commercial Premises and Pest Control.

The main function of our Environmental Protection division is to provide effective regulation in respect of pollution issues, mainly associated with noise and air quality.

Contaminated land is an issue which affects all areas of the council's business and one which requires expertise from a variety of disciplines. It effects property transactions, marketing issues, planning, building control and even maintenance/works contracts all over the city.

The service has many functions, both statutory and otherwise. One of these functions is to regulate the marketing of food at retail, wholesale and manufacturing levels. Checks are carried out to ensure the accuracy of labelling, composition, description, pricing and quantities.

Our Pest Control Team provides an effective service for residents and businesses in the city, dealing a variety of pests including rats, mice, fleas, wasps, cockroaches, bed bugs and squirrels.
