Do you have rubbish too big to put out with your sack / dustbin collection ? Old beds, settees and fridges, or other bulky items that you can't get rid of yourself? Portsmouth City Council offers a special bulky waste collection service that will pick up the more awkward items of rubbish from your home and dispose of them in the correct way. The cost of the service depends on the size of the things that you want us to collect, with prices starting from £30 to dispose of approximately one cubic metre of rubbish. If you cancel the booking you will receive a full refund, unless we have already attended to make the collection.  In this case, a minimum of £15 will be charged, to cover costs. If you receive benefits you may be entitled to a subsidised bulky waste collection.

If you want to get rid of any old furniture, toys household items that you think may have some life left in them, why not donate them to a local charity? Many charity shops in the area will be glad of your old things, as long as they are still in reasonable condition and are fire safety approved. Many charities will come and collect donations from your home free of charge. Use the link on the right to check out some local companies who deal in second hand furniture.

Local waste collection companies can also provide a fast, competitive service. Find them in your telephone directory under 'waste and recycling' or in your local newspaper. Make sure that the contractor you hire is properly licensed and will dispose of your rubbish legally and responsibly.
