Rules of the BIG Green Commuter Challenge

Here you will find the rules of the BIG Green Commuter Challenge.

Who can take part

Organisations that can take part include:

  • those in the Portsmouth travel to work area
  • priority will be given to Portsmouth based businesses and members of the SignPOST Travel Forum
  • other organisations by invitation

Individuals and members of the public can also take part if the organisation they work for is not registered. Their names will be entered into the prize draw for a chance to win one of the many fabulous prizes.

Anyone who uses alternatives to travel to work in the Portsmouth area (including Fareham, Gopsort, Waterlooville, Havant and Portsmouth) on one or more of days of the BIG Green Commuter Challenge week. That includes people who usually use alternatives to the car, including car sharing.

Winning organisation

The winning organisation is the one that demonstrates the highest mileage saved per member of staff employed. This will allow smaller companies to compete against larger companies.

What we provide

The our organiser  will supply leaflets and posters, including PDF versions, guidelines for the co-ordinator and will organise an information session for co-ordinators. Participants will be able to record their miles online, which will reduce admin. work for the inhouse co-ordinator. A limited number of pedometers may be available to participating organisations.

What we expect of the organisations that take part

Each organisation taking part will be required to nominate a co-ordinator who will be responsible registering their organisation's involvement, internal publicity, collation and recording of results where employees do not have access to the internet. The co-ordinator must ensure that all participants have recorded their miles online (www.portsmouth.gov.uk/commuterchallenge). Where employees do not have internet access, the co-ordinator will add their miles on their behalf by the closing date.

Prizes

Some prizes are subject to restrictions as follows:

  • South West Trains - to an individual who will commute to work using the train
  • First and Stagecoach - season tickets to someone who has used the bus on the day of the Commuter Challenge

Members of the Steering Group will be eligible to take part in the BIG Green Commuter Challenge but may not enter the prize draw.
