Climate change strategy consultation
Climate change strategy consultation
As a coastal city, climate change is something that Portsmouth cannot ignore.
We are incredibly vulnerable to the predicted impacts of climate change with sea level rises increasing the risk of flooding, and rising temperatures increasing the risk of heat related deaths for the most vulnerable of our residents.
Why have a climate change strategy for Portsmouth?
Climate change is not going to go away and it's something that we cannot tackle on our own. A climate change strategy for Portsmouth will set out where we need to focus our efforts and who will be involved.
A climate change strategy will:
- provide a vision for the city on tackling climate change
- explain what climate change is and what it will mean for Portsmouth
- set out what you have told us are the key outcomes of the strategy
- include a detailed action plan to achieve the outcomes of the strategy, setting out the resources needed and who will be involved
- link closely with other big plans for the city including the Core Strategy and Local Development Framework key planning policies
- be supported by key partners through the Portsmouth Sustainability Action Group
- be delivered by everybody in Portsmouth
The success of Portsmouth's climate change strategy and of making Portsmouth into a low carbon city will be reliant on us all working together. Public sector organisations, businesses and residents all need to take responsibility for the future of the city and take action to tackle climate change.
