School transport - how to apply
To qualify for free transport to school, your child must attend their designated school, or one that is nearer to their home, and the distance measured by the shortest practicable walking route must be:- more than two miles for children under 8 years of age (Year 3 and under)
or - more than three miles for children age 8 and over (Year 4 and over)
If no place is available at the designated school, free transport may be given to the next nearest school with an available place if written confirmation is provided by the headteacher of the designated school.
Change of address
If you move and wish for your child to remain at their current school assistance may be offered for pupils in Years 10 and 11 where:
- the distance between home and school is more than three miles
and - the change of address takes place after the start of the first term in Year 10
and - the pupil is attending the designated (or nearer) school for the previous home address
Transport to church schools
If your child attends a church school, they will qualify for help with travelling expenses on public transport to the nearest appropriate school if:
- they has been baptised or otherwise received into the faith of the foundation of the school
and - the distance between home and school is more than the distances given above and below 6 miles (primary school) and 10 miles (secondary school)
