Sensory Impairment and Deaf Services

Reading newsprint using a magnifier. Our Sensory Impairment and Deaf Services Team provide services for children and adults who live in Portsmouth and:
  • are sight impaired
  • are deaf with speech (severe hearing loss acquired after learning to speak)
  • are Deaf with no speech (severe hearing loss acquired before learning to speak)
  • are hard of hearing
  • have both sight and hearing loss (dual sensory loss)

Services we offer

The services we offer include:

  • advice and information about equipment and services that support independence
  • assessment by a specialist team member
  • an early intervention service based in the Eye Clinic at Queen Alexandra Hospital
  • individual rehabilitation training for people with vision impairment
  • rehabilitation workshops for people with sensory loss
  • a low vision service in partnership with the Health Service and local optometrists
  • registration as Blind/severely sight impaired or Partially Sighted/sight impaired
