Sensory Impairment and Deaf Services
Our Sensory Impairment and Deaf Services Team provide services for children and adults who live in Portsmouth and:
- are sight impaired
- are deaf with speech (severe hearing loss acquired after learning to speak)
- are Deaf with no speech (severe hearing loss acquired before learning to speak)
- are hard of hearing
- have both sight and hearing loss (dual sensory loss)
Services we offer
The services we offer include:
- advice and information about equipment and services that support independence
- assessment by a specialist team member
- an early intervention service based in the Eye Clinic at Queen Alexandra Hospital
- individual rehabilitation training for people with vision impairment
- rehabilitation workshops for people with sensory loss
- a low vision service in partnership with the Health Service and local optometrists
- registration as Blind/severely sight impaired or Partially Sighted/sight impaired
