Our vision
Our vision is to be a city where individuals, communities and organisations recognise the impact their activities have on the world we live in both now and for future generations and make choices that respect economic, social and environmental limits.
In order to achieve this vision, we will aim to lead by example through our role as a service provider, an employer and a community leader and we will seek to:
- promote sustainable use of energy and water and increased use of renewable energy sources
- develop a sustainable transport system that encourages environmentally friendly travel choices
- promote sustainable purchase policies that balance economic, social and environmental needs
- reduce use of material resources and increase reuse and recycling of waste materials
- ensure that the city’s built environment is developed and managed sustainability, through sustainable use of land and sustainable design and construction practices
- protect and enhance Portsmouth’s natural environment including safeguarding local biodiversity and improving air and water quality
- raise awareness of sustainability and ensure individuals, communities and organisations understand the contribution they can make to creating a sustainable city
