Previous highway design projects

This is where you will find details of our previous highway design projects.

Fratton Bridge roundabout

This scheme was designed by us for the client to address three issues to:

  • redesign the lining of the roundabout to address the high priority accident cluster at the site and reline the roundabout to encourage drivers to use the correct lanes to remove a bottleneck for drivers travelling south
  • improve pedestrian crossing facilities and introduced a more aesthetically pleasing footway
  • improve the cycle lane at the site to avoid the cyclist / pedestrian conflict

Mayfield safer routes to school

The idea came from the 2004/5 School Travel Plan incorporated into scheme design with emphasis on large number of pedestrians and cyclists who use Mayfield Road.

The scheme was designed to improve crossing facilities directly outside the school and install gateway features at the two junctions to the immediate east and west of the school to warn drivers.

Sultan Road traffic calming scheme

The construction of this traffic calming scheme in this area comprised of six features:

  1. six sets of double traffic cushions
  2. one traffic island enlargement
  3. two junction gateway treatments, one using cobbled overrun and one with a raised flat top hump
  4. one new zebra crossing and build out
  5. one red imprint junction with build out
  6. associated drainage, lining and signing amendments
