On 13/06/2008 a woman from Portsmouth was successfully prosecuted by Portsmouth City Council, and the Department for Work and Pensions, on three charges under Section 111A (1A) of the Social Security Administration Act 1992. She had failed to declare to both departments that her partner, who was in full time employment, had been resident with her at her address since 2002. This resulted in a Housing Benefit overpayment of £23481.60, a Council Tax Benefit overpayment of £3203.81, and an Income Support overpayment of £32289.31. She was sentenced to 51 weeks imprisonment, suspended for twelve months, and ordered to complete 200 hours unpaid work.
