Strouden Court

We are working closely with residents and stakeholders of Strouden Court in Leigh Park to develop new plans for the regeneration and development of the area.  It marks the beginning of an exciting period of substantial investment to improve the area for the benefit of the local community.

During this summer, we have contacted all 3,500 residents who live in the area as well as a number of interested stakeholders. Feedback from this period of consultation will shortly be collected, presented to the public and used to create suitable plans.

The project expected to be completed by 2012, includes the regeneration of the shopping centre to create a vibrant community hub with retail outlets and other business opportunities.  Quality affordable housing will be built with a package of support incentives to assist easy entry into the housing market.  General improvements will also be made to the area.

The scheme will provide residents with a safe and secure environment in a sustainable community, where there is local employment and housing opportunities.  The development will have minimal impact on the surrounding countryside.  Under used and inadequate buildings will be demolished to make way a new lease of life.

Background

Strouden Court is located off St Clare’s avenue and is the neighbourhood centre for Warren Park which forms part of the Leigh Park estate.  The estate was built following WWII to provide new housing and allow for redevelopment of Portsmouth.  The estate layout and design is poor with lots of under used and inadequate space which is not aesthetically pleasing or energy efficient.

In June 2004 following the demolition of the public house, The Warren, residents were consulted on making the area of Strouden Court, and the wider area of Leigh Park, a more desirable place to live.  Unfortunately these plans were not realised and now Portsmouth City Council has taken the lead to improve the area for the benefit of the community.
