Conservation Area 06 - The Terraces

view of terraces The Terraces became a Conservation Area in 1970. They were one of the first phases of development outside of Old Portsmouth and Portsea and used to face the fortifications of Old Portsmouth. The five terraces still retain the original character of Southsea, reflecting an important stage in the growth of the city.

They have changed since Georgian period, particularly as a result of war damage. Many Georgian buildings survive, but in some cases with alterations.
