  • commercial - includes food hygiene standards in food premises, health and safety, port health, animal health and infectious disease control; 
  • pollution control- covers noise, air quality, air pollution and pest control;
  • contaminated land - advise on planning conditions relating to contamination; 
  • waste management - please see separate section entitled "Rubbish and Recycling" to the left of this page;
  • domestic clinical waste - patients receiving treatment at home, patients self treating;
  • community funerals - for when a person dies within the boundaries of Portsmouth and have no blood line relative;
  • trading standards - protects residents by providing guidance to businesses on their legal obligations. Officers intervene when unfair trading or other associated criminal activity affects consumers' interests. They also manage Square Deal and the Edge projects, which build better businesses and help people become smarter shoppers.
