Public rights of way
Last updated: 20 January 2010 11:00 UKPublic rights of way are minor public highways which benefit the community at large, in much the same way as the public road network does.
A public right of way is a legal route over which the public has the right to pass at any time for leisure and recreation.
They include footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways open to all traffic.
