Sainsbury, Commercial Road

The existing Sainsbury store and petrol station at the northern end of Commercial Road occupies an area that, prior to redevelopment, comprised the former Royal Portsmouth Hospital and the former Andrew Bell School .

The Royal Hospital gradually had its facilities transferred to the then newly expanded and modernised, Queen Alexandra hospital at Cosham and finally closed on 1 October 1978.
