The Hospital started out as a military hospital, built in 1908 and was used for treating wounded troops during The Second World War. During the war the hospital was also used for treating local civilians. In the late 1940s the Queen Alexandra Hospital became a civilian hospital incorporated into the NHS system which was set up nationally in 1948.
