No 13 Urban Capacity Study
The concept of "urban capacity" relates to the analysis of previously- developed land, otherwise referred to as 'brownfield sites', under-used land and inappropriate land uses involving a calculation as to what the future development potential of that land might be, whether it be utilised for housing or commercial floorspace. The study, undertaken by the Planning Service, is predominantly concerned with establishing how much extra housing can be accommodated within the city in a socially acceptable, economic and sustainable way. In doing so, it has also taken into account the availability of sites for commercial uses.
