7. Potential new public transport modes

A new means of providing public transport could take the form of one of a number of types of intermediate technology, some of which are used overseas although kerb-guided buses have been introduced in a number of UK locations.

It is clear that although an extensive rail and bus network is in place, this has not provided a sufficiently attractive network for motorists to avoid using cars, particularly at peak times. A new system, fully integrated with car and other modes, with a new image and demonstrable benefits is needed to satisfy the requirements of the motorist as part of a wider strategy. This would form a core element of a significantly enhanced public transport network.
