Means of Escape

Within Building Control is a team of officers dealing exclusively with Section 72 of the Building Act 1984. The section of the Act requires that adequate means of escape in case of fire is provided in buildings containing flats with a floor(s) more than 20 ft (6.1m) above the ground.

The team is carrying out a re-inspection programme under the above legislation and may require work to be carried out where the means of escape is inadequate.
