In addition to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Guidance on Forced Marriages which is in section 10.4 of the Adult Protection Policy and Procedures, the following guidance issued by Hampshire Constabulary must be followed. This contact with police colleagues must be before other actions, such as using an interpreter. It may well be that a police interpreter is the safest option.
It is imperative that if you become aware of an issue of forced marriage, or a proposed forced marriage, that this is reported to the police as soon as possible. The issues are that women are being kidnapped, often taken out of the country, and held against their will to compel them to marry. This also often leads to serious violence, threats of violence and sometimes even murder.
