Residents' parking schemes

We have successfully implemented a number of residents' parking schemes throughout the City since 1999, with the sole aim of optimising parking opportunities for residents, whilst ensuring businesses are catered for.

The schemes are requested by residents through their councillors or neighbourhood forums. Once there is enough support for such a scheme, we conduct a survey of residents' views, which asks how they would prefer their scheme to operate. The results are then analysed and entered onto a database.

At this stage, if sufficient support is shown, the legal process of advertising for public consultation takes place, followed by the implementation of the scheme. All schemes are enforced by Civil Enforcement Officers employed by us.

Permit information

The first resident permit is free to all residents with a vehicle. The second resident permit costs £50 and additional permits, if approved, cost £100 each. Third permits are only approved under exceptional circumstances. They are issued at the discretion of parking section managers.

The first business permit costs £100. The second business permit costs £200 and additional permits, if approved, cost £300 each.

Permits for visitors can be purchased for 12 hours, 24 hours, 4 consecutive days or 7 consecutive days, costing 80p, £1.50, £5 and £9 respectively.
