We provide a range of services for private tenants and landlords, including:
- responding to complaints about poor housing conditions and giving advice to owners and landlords about any improvements necessary to meet minimum legal standards
- carrying out property inspections to identify unsatisfactory private housing in Portsmouth
- taking action to secure the improvement of private housing, particularly where risks to health and safety are identified
- licensing of certain houses in multiple occupation
- providing information and advice to owners and landlords about their responsibilities towards home maintenance
- dealing with domestic drainage problems and accumulations of rubbish (not associated with the street scene)
- administering grants to improve the condition of privately rented property
- providing advice and information on ways of improving the energy efficiency of rented accommodation
- liaising with other agencies and organisations such as the police, hampshire fire service and university to ensure resources are best directed to meeting priorities identified in the our community plan
- providing advice to landlords and tenants about their rights and responsibilities, preventing homelessness, investigating illegal evictions and harassment and giving advice to tenants seeking alternative accommodation
We have a 10 working day response target for enquiries about private housing conditions, and we prioritise all service requests, aiming to respond as quickly as possible.
