Road safety for Portsmouth

Think! Road Safety logo The reduction of road casualties is an important priority for us. Through road safety education, training, publicity, engineering projects, and effective traffic management we are endeavouring to achieve a safer road network for the people of Portsmouth.

By the year 2010 we aim to achieve:

  • 40% reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured on the road
  • 50% reduction in the number of children killed or seriously injured
  • 10% reduction in the slight casualty rate, expressed as the number of people slightly injured per 100 million vehicle kilometres

The information we have provided here shows how we are working to achieve these targets and to educate the community so that together we can provide a safer living environment.

The table below shows the number of casualties in Portsmouth from 1996 to 2006 by severity.
