Pedestrian Information

Pedestrians are one of the most vulnerable categories of road users. On the whole, Portsmouth enjoys a low casualty rate. In 2002, Portsmouth recorded its number of pedestrians injured as a lower figure than the Governments target, but the number of pedestrians suffering serious or fatal injuries was 50% above the target figure.

In Portsmouth the age range with the highest number of casualties is the 5-15 year bracket, with the greatest number being males. Through activities such as child pedestrian training, we hope to reduce this figure significantly and reach the Government's target within the foreseeable future.

The pedestrian advice section will give you valuable information to help you when you are walking on the City's streets - at any time of the day. There are numerous different types of pedestrian crossings - from zebras to toucans - around the City to help you cross roads safely.
