Schools Information
Pedestrians are one of the most vulnerable categories of road users, with child pedestrians aged between 11-16 being one of the highest casualty brackets. For pupils, the transition from primary to secondary school is a particularly vulnerable time and this age group duly receive targeted attention from the Road Safety Team. We also target children from nursery age upwards to get them set up with good road habits for later life.
We have a Road Safety Education Programme for both primary and secondary levels which can be found below.
These documents contain details of all the activities and sessions we can provide to teach children about road safety in a fun and interesting way. If you would like the Road Safety and Sustainable Travel Team to visit your school and deliver any of these sessions then please contact us on roadsafety@portsmouthcc.gov.uk or call Road Safety Co-ordinator Nicola Waight on 023 9268 8262. Alternatively you can sign your school up to our Walk Once a Week scheme to take advantage of the above activities and free resources to promote the campaign.
We also have a Safer Routes to School scheme whereby all schools complete travel plans which are monitored and updated. Road safety education sessions can count towards school travel plans and Green Travel Awards for schools in Portsmouth. For more details see the Safer Routes to School Section or email roadsafety@portsmouthcc.gov.uk or call 023 9283 4889.
