Prescribed Processes for businesses

Some industries have to have an authorisation or a permit to operate. Those Industrial processes which need to have an authorisation or a permit to operate are referred to as 'Prescribed Processes' and are regularly inspected to ensure that they are meeting certain operating conditions.

Portsmouth City Council and the Environment Agency decide whether a company needs an authorisation or a permit to operate by checking what activity is being carried out, what substances are used and how much throughput there is.

A list of polluting processes is given in both the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Pollution Prevention and Control Regulations 2000. More information can be found using the external links.

Below you will find copies of the Prescribed Processes in Portsmouth regulated by us.
