Britain In Bloom
Since it started back in 1963, Britain In Bloom has evolved into the largest horticultural campaign in Europe and as summer approaches, so does the competitive stage of Britain In Bloom and more locally, participation in Portsmouth In Bloom.
The aim of the Britain In Bloom campaign is to improve and regenerate our local environment through the imaginative use of trees, shrubs and flowers, conservation and recycling projects and ridding our streets of litter, graffiti and vandalism. Nationally, Portsmouth has a fantastic record having won many awards in both Britain In Bloom and Southern England In Bloom. Awards include 'Best Park' , 'Best Floral Designs', recycling awards and the biggest of all - 'Best Inner City' in 2000.
Portsmouth In Bloom promotes the same aims, but through the involvement of the local community. Last year we had over 250 entries in the 36 categories - these range from best front garden through to best display of industrial premises. There is a category for just about everybody - homes, shops, police and fire stations, schools, environmental projects, allotments and even best balcony.
