The following multipliers will be used to calculate the non domestic rate amounts payable for 2015/16:
- Small business multiplier - 48p (0.480)
- Standard multiplier - 49.3p (0.493)
The multiplier increases each year in line with inflation, however the increase for inflation for 2015/16 has been capped at 2% by the Government.
The standard multiplier will be used for all occupied property with a rateable value above £18,000, all empty property regardless of rateable value and if the ratepayer is entitled to a mandatory relief. All occupied properties with a rateable value of less than £18,000 will have their bill calculated using the lower multiplier.
Paying your bill
You can choose to pay your non domestic rate over 12 instalments from April to March. If you do not already do so and would like to, you will need to contact us. If you change to 12 monthly instalments during the year, we will give you the maximum number of instalments remaining in the current financial year.
Subsequent annual bills will be payable over the full 12 months.
Please note that there is a minimum instalment amount of £50 per month, or one instalment if your bill is £100 or less - if this applies to your bill, payment cannot be made over 12 months.
A discount of up to £1,000 in 2014/15 and £1,500 2015/16 can be given to ratepayers in occupation of retail premises with a rateable value of up to £50,000.
This includes pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. It will be necessary for the ratepayer to make an application to receive this discount. Ratepayers who applied for 2014/15 will continue to receive the relief in 2015. Other ratepayers may still apply.
Following the postponing of the 2015 revaluation to 2017, the 5 year transitional scheme will not continue in 2015 and 2016 years.
A replacement discretionary relief can be awarded to ratepayers occupying property with a rateable value of less than £50,000 who would normally have received transitional relief (protection from a bigger bill) in 2015 and 2016. Applications for this relief will be sent to eligible ratepayers only during March 2015.
For businesses that move into retail properties between 1 April 2014 and 31 March 2016 that have been empty for a year or more, the government has provided funding to local authorities so that a 50% discount for 18 months can be awarded.
Ratepayers must contact us to apply for this relief.
